Private BGX Walk

Manuel Plaza is the starting point for a new walk we are piloting called Land of the Blacks. In 2022, Manuel Plaza was unveiled as a new public space in Lower Manhattan at 35 East 4th Street between Bowery and Lafayette. On the plaque dedicating this plaza, Black Gotham Experience is credited for being selected to name the space, which is the first and only permanent dedication to the Land of the Blacks. This was one of the first self-emancipated Black communities in North America and New York City's first Black neighborhood.
