Black Gotham Experience Caesar's Rebellion: Walking Tour & Interactive Mingle - 11.12.17
Caesar's Rebellion Pt I: Walking Tour & Interactive Mingle | 3pm-6pm | November 12
How are rebellion, revolution, and freedom defined? During this walking tour and mingle experience, Group 5 will visit the Black Gotham Experience Work / Space gallery. They will be transported to the late 1600s and early 1700s when the port city of New York is serving as the epicenter to the British Transatlantic Slave Trade, with a wealthy master class, merchants, pirates, sailors, indentures, free Black people, and enslaved Africans. This experience will explore how the enslaved and free people of African descent worked together to subvert the system of slavery and define rebellion with the first armed Black revolt in 1712. After the walking tour, the group will discuss their initial impressions and be given a take-home activity that they will share at the December 27 follow-up mingle.
